The building was built in 1925 for an automobile dealership with service and parts shops. It was an active Chevrolet dealership in Butte's uptown business district. In 1979, the building was completely remodeled to become the home of a steakhouse. New exterior brick walls were put in place over the former display showroom. Interior walls went up, new decor and equipment transformed the home of the dealership into an elite bar and steakhouse. Unfortunately, in 1980 the smelter in Anaconda was closed, followed by the shut downs of the Butte mines, both the underground and the open pit. Hundreds of workers were laid off thus creating an economic depression in the local economy. The business closed after a few short years.

The building was purchased in 1984 by Don (Doc) and Carol Wheeler and in 1987 they remodeled the building and opened the Gold Rush Casino and Restaurant. The Gold Rush became Buttes first casino. After more than 15 years it is still among the largest casinos in Montana. The restaurant was closed in 2008, but the casino continues the Gold Rush tradition.
