The building was built in 1925 for an automobile dealership with service and parts shops. It was an active Chevrolet dealership in Butte's uptown business district. In 1979, the building was completely remodeled to become the home of a steakhouse. New exterior brick walls were put in place over the former display showroom. Interior walls went up, new decor and equipment transformed the home of the dealership into an elite bar and steakhouse. Unfortunately, in 1980 the smelter in Anaconda was closed, followed by the shut downs of the Butte mines, both the underground and the open pit. Hundreds of workers were laid off thus creating an economic depression in the local economy. The business closed after a few short years. |

The building was purchased in 1984 by Don (Doc) and Carol Wheeler and in 1987 they remodeled the building and opened the Gold Rush Casino and Restaurant. The Gold Rush became Buttes first casino. After 20 years it is still among the largest casinos in Montana. We take pride in our food, which is prepared from scratch. You'll find many old family recipes, wonderful homemade soups and desserts. At the Gold Rush you'll find a relaxed atmosphere with lots of gaming action. Our keno runners come right to your table. So relax and enjoy your experience. |

From Doc and the staff, we hope you'll help us write the next decade of history for the Gold Rush Casino! |
